Foaling

All mares foaling with us are accommodated in our dedicated foaling unit. They are closely supervised by our veterinary and foaling teams. To help your mare settle in comfortably, we recommend arriving about 2-3 weeks before her expected foaling date.

Each spacious foaling box is fitted with CCTV and mares are equipped with a foaling alarm, ensuring our team is promptly alerted to any activity. A member of our foaling team is present during foaling, carefully monitoring both mare and foal and ready to assist whenever needed.

After delivery, we check the mare’s colostrum and carry out initial assessments of both mare and foal to ensure everything is progressing well, including confirming that the foal is able to stand and nurse and the mare’s placenta is checked. Our experienced team is always on hand, including our resident vets should assistance be required, however, we aim to minimise intervention wherever possible.

After birth we carry out a general foal health check, including testing the foal’s IgG levels to confirm they have received an adequate amount of antibodies from the mare. We also examine all four limbs for any signs of deformity. Should any concerns arise, our veterinary and farrier teams will conduct a thorough assessment.
