EMBRYO
TRANSFER CENTRE
Twemlows Hall specialises
in Embryo Transfer and 2007 got off to a flying start when the
Badminton and Burghley winner, Headly Britannia arrived to take
up her Twemlows Hall Burghley Scholarship (see below).

Headley Britannia (centre above), winner
of Burghley 2006 and Badminton 2007,
with her two in-foal recipients, Pippa and Bear.
Michaela KÖlling,
VetMed MRCVS, heads up the Embryo Transfer department with dedicated
purpose built facilities. Michaelia is also responsible for
all veterinary work in connection with AI, ET and infertility
investigations.
As a result of the demand we
have had for embryo transfer work we are looking for more recipient
mares - ideally over 16.1hh (but sometimes we need from 15.2hh
to 16.1hh), mares who have for some reason become unrideable
and are looking for a good home; age 3 to 9 years with no stable
vices. We are given some mares - lent others - and occasionally
pay for some!

this year and met up again when on their ET programmes at Twemlows

TWEMLOWS
HALL BURGHLEY SCHOLARSHIP
In order to encourage more people
to breed from the top mares Twemlows Hall are offering a scholarship
to the best of the best in three day eventing.
More British Horses
The British Equestrian Federation's (BEF's)
vision for More People, More Horses, More Places and More Medals,
specifically More Horses, has been generously supported by the
Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials and Twemlows Hall Stud Farm.
The BEF's British Breeding seeks to promote
the breeding of British horses and ponies and, through the Twemlows
Hall Burghley Award, we see the highest placed British bred
or domiciled mare at Burghley this year (provided she finishes
in the top 20%) presented with a package for two embryo transfers
to be taken up in the year following the event, valued at up
to £5000.
Already awarded retrospectively to the
2006 winner, Headley Britannia, this Award means that one of
the impediments to using top mares to breed from, that they
are often in the prime of their competitive lives as well as
at the optimum age for breeding, is overcome. Embryo transfer
enables foals to be bred from top mares, without disrupting
their competitive careers.
Says Andrew Finding, Chief Executive
of the BEF "It is one of the most
important objectives of the Strategy for the Horse that we should
seek to have an increasing number of our international riders
mounted on British bred horses in the future and the support
offered by both the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials and Twemlows
Hall Stud Farm are positive advances which we welcome".
Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials Event
Director, Elizabeth Inman, says "We
are pleased that Twemlows Hall is making this award in support
of the national Strategy and hope to see the offspring of the
embryo transfer breeding programme competing at Burghley in
the future".
